Connecting with Literacy & Basic Skills

As a result of the COVID 19 pandemic, Literacy & Basic Skills programs in Durham Region offer their services in a “hybrid” model. This means that some classes will take place in person in a classroom and some learning will take place online using a computer. Programs will work with learners to identify what delivery model works best for each person, taking into consideration their level of literacy, access to technology and personal learning needs.

Service providers all have their own policies and procedures as well as wider public health guidelines to follow during the pandemic. It is important for learners to know that they must comply with these when beginning in a program.  Learners and staff will have to wear masks and/or face shields and maintain social distancing when attending classes. More information will be provided upon registration.

Computer learning is also offered through these service providers and you can contact a local program to learn more about technical requirements, supports and materials.
